When a friend asked me what my favourite verse in the Bible was, I didn’t need to think twice. For a lot of people, its John 3:16.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
If John 3:16 teaches us of God’s love, Matthew 28:20 tells us of his faithfulness.
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
This is the Great Commission that God has bestowed upon all those who follow him, to proclaim the very love John 3:16 taught us. Yet, in our everyday life, I sometimes find it difficult to speak of this love. Not because this love is imperfect, but because I am. Sometimes fear and shame stop me from telling someone about my wonderful Father. That is why Matthew 28:20 is my favourite verse. It tells us that we don’t have to do this alone.
v 20: I am with you always, to the end of the age.
To the end of the age.
Not till you die, not till you reach heaven.
